Headline Causality Disconnect

According to the headline, OH NO THE WORLD IS GETTING WARMER AND THAT’S CAUSING POISON IVY TO GET WORSE! PANIC!

When you actually read the article you find out that increased levels of CO2 are causing Poison Ivy, along with most other plants that use CO2, to grow faster and be stronger. This is kind of a natural balancing mechanism really. Plants not only use less water, but use more CO2 and grow larger when there’s an excess of CO2. As the CO2 drops, the plants stop growing as quickly and use the normal amount again. Generally that would be considered a positive benefit of CO2 in the atmosphere. Plants growing better means more trees, more food, etc.

Yet again, the newspapers simultaneously get something right and wrong in different parts of their articles. Wrong up on the headlines that people skim and actually pay attention to, right down where nobody really reads. We need to teach these dopes the words “Cause and Effect” (along with “Supply and Demand,” which they seem to have also forgotten.)
