Kazriko's Dive
I did finally get that AMD Sempron64 2800+ processor put into my secondary desktop. It’s a swift little computer too. The only problems I’ve had so far with AMD64 Linux is the deinterlacers on TVTime and the fact that you need the closed source nvidia driver for the video card. I finally have it working, but it’s basically in 640x240 mode on the tv until I can get them going again.
I’m trying to come up with good ways of phrasing some energy related ideas. I’ve been listening to some talk radio, reading some news articles on the web, and I’ve come to the conclusion that nobody has a bloody clue when it comes to our energy problems.
For one, it seems like they don’t recognize that we actually have two separate problems. One is Stationary energy generation/collection, the other is Portable energy storage.
The whole cartoon muhammed thing keeps getting sillier.
I found this article from ABC (Link Dead) to be interesting, but the point I took issue to was on the last page. French theologian Sohaib Bencheikh spoke out against the pictures in a column in France Soir accompanying them Wednesday.“One must find the borders between freedom of expression and freedom to protect the sacred,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, the West has lost its sense of the sacred.
Review of controllers (Link Dead) which completely misses many of the improvements in Playstation controllers and assigns them to the wrong place. I guess it’s understandable because it’s a nintendo magazine, but it’s almost like the guy has never touched a PS1, dualshock, or dualshock 2 controller in his life. ;)
No change for the PS1 pad from the SNES? My nitpick on that would be the extra 2 triggers. Pushing in of the analog sticks and rumble feature added in the Dualshock 2?
They obviously can’t laugh at themselves.
I suppose that’s the same for all religions, but to actually storm a government building with guns because of a newspaper printing an unflattering cartoon is a little loony. I suppose christians confronting the same thing with Jesus might do the same thing, direct to the newspaper, without the guns…
Adult Swim had one of their little “humor” interludes where they stated they saw another review calling them the “Stoner Block.” They said they were rather high on Surrealism.
I think I have a new word for surrealists. “Stoners” :)I mean, they have stuff that is really good. Venture brothers is probably my favorite example of a good well written and well drawn Adult Swim original. It’s really too bad it’s so rare.
Iran’s been in the news alot lately. US/etc doesn’t really know what to do about them. Russia says they should send fuel to russia for it to be processed and sent back.
It sounds reasonable, but I see some ways where it can go wrong. What if they send back a somewhat more enriched sample of uranium that could be made into a bomb? And I loathe giving Russia more power over other country’s energy needs than they have already after that Ukraine fiasco.
I can’t decide which system I want to be my secondary desktop. Bebedora is currently my secondary, but I think it may end up having less memory and being slower than my new server system. I’m going to be mirroring the home drive across both systems, and they’ll probably have an almost identical feature and software set, so technically I could use either of them as a secondary desktop. The only thing I’d really need to move over would be the TV card from bebedora.
I picked up the Antec Aria case last night. It looks like I’ll need to scrounge up $150 next paycheck to fill it out with components. It’ll be my first 64-bit AMD system when it’s done. :) It’s quite a cute case, but much larger than the Biostar system I have at work. The plus side is that it has 4 total drive bays. that’s 2 more than the other SFF’s I’ve worked with.
Memorex to be purchased by Imation (Link Dead)
Here I was last night burning Imation DVD-R discs on my brand new Memorex DVD burner. I guess that means both companies have a pretty decent reach on products. :)
