Kazriko's Dive

May 2011 Multimedia Completion

Books: 13: Lucky Star Volume 6. Still fun. 14: Lucky Star Volume 3. Actually getting into the stories they made anime out of in this. Really fun. 15: Erfworld Volume 1. So, I’ve read it already. This time I have it in dead tree form. Games: 12: Portal 2 Coop. Yeah, I already counted Portal 2, but I finally finished the Coop mode. 13: Dragon Quest 6. Fun old game.

Baccano

After Haruhi Suzumiya and Memento shows seem to be more free to mix up their timelines and scramble them up by attempting to make the shows more interesting. With Haruhi, the series was pretty good even in chronological order even if the storyline made more sense out of order. With Memento, it absolutely made sense for them to rearrange it in the way they did for storyline reasons, and it was entirely consistent and not random.

Bin whodin?

The title is a bit of a joke, but I have a few thoughts on the whole thing that happened this Sunday. First off, I’m quite disappointed by the celebrations and such that happened after that. We should be better than that. Sure, it was a necessary thing to do, but it’s not something we should be happy about. He was a threat to be dealt with, like a wolf in the pasture or a fox in the henhouse.

Forgot Pokemon

Funny, I tried to write down all of the games I finished in April, and completely forgot Pokemon Black. I guess that means it didn’t really stick in my mind much. It wasn’t a bad game, but I guess I’ve grown away from that sort of simplistic rpg. I’ve gone back and updated the previous post.

April 2011 Multimedia Completion

Books: 3. Fall of Atlantis: Marion Z Bradley. This has to be one of the more annoying books I’ve read recently, and the reason I didn’t finish any books in March. Silly tribal magic stuff combined with ridiculous superstitions about pregnancy and child bearing, then they throw in caste based ceremonial rape into the mix. Things like this just irritate me to no end, and if I weren’t such a completionist I’d have just deleted the book half-way through.

Disqus

For those of you who haven’t posted to my blog because you don’t want to create an account here, I’ve now implemented something just for you! There’s now Disqus comment support in the blog. No longer any need at all to create a Socia account just to comment, and I’ll probably even block off the account creation bit here before too long. (If you actually want a Socia blog, let me know.

Game imports

I finally caved and imported a game. I usually hang on to the hope that they will eventually bring the title over here and I’ll be able to play it normally, but after reading the forums for Atlus, the JP publisher of the game and the logical choice to publish it here, I discovered there is absolutely no possibility of the game being translated for US release. Princess Crown was a very early Vanillaware game.

March Multimedia Completion

Books Didn’t quite finish any, got stuck on another really, really dull book about primitive cultures and their bizarre caste systems and primitive magic. It took me all month to read 160 out of 480 pages of it… Games 6. Ys 1. Excellent game, aside from the lack of direction. 9 hours. Quite fun though. 7. Ys 2. About 8 hours to finish this one. Much more focused than the last.

Hazards of Amazon...

It used to be that you could trust buying things from Amazon. It seems though with them putting third party stores up, that these days are long gone and Amazon should be treated essentially like Ebay. I picked up a copy of Paranoia Agent from them and found that it had a number of odd features that lead me to believe it’s counterfeit… I’ll paste the email I sent to the seller via Amazon here.

Music?

I often wonder in my Multimedia things if I should include Music. Music is much harder for me to judge on a quick basis than the other things that I list. There’s no real “finishing” music, and I often don’t know how I feel about music until it’s been in my rotation for a few months. Maybe I should just make a post occasionally of music that I’m thinking about…
