Apropos that, an anecdote. When I "invented" hypervisor (and paravirtualization), I literally named it that, because you know, it's like a super-supervisor. And, before that, Soviet spies stole the source code for VM/370 from IBM, so it was widely available among the "in" people. I never saw it myself, but once I talked about my ideas with a guy who did. He listened for a minute, then exclaimed: "Holy shit! Now I know why!" He explained that in the IBM source, all global identifiers started with "HV", and it was always a mystery to him why. Only when I talked to him about my hypervisor, the penny dropped.
