The media has short memories.

Without any comment on prior attempts to do this, journalists tout how MS is letting *gasp* home users *gasp* write GAMES *gasp* for a CONSOLE!

Never mind that Sony has done this twice before…

Back in 98ish they released the “Net Yarose” kit for $750 to home users that included special PS1 hardware as well as software to write games for the PS1.

In 2002, they released the “PS2 Linux Kit” kit for $300 to home users which not only had a complete operating system, but also had all but 1 of the developer manuals they send to official PS2 developers as well as the hardware needed to develop games for the PS2.

There has been rumors that they will have PS3 with the capability of running Linux as well. Likely, we’d get the same sort of kit available for the new system…

And yet, they phrase things like this. Has Microsoft just intentionally upped its game against the competition, even before next-generation gaming consoles have even appeared on store shelves? You bet – now, it’s up to the consumer to decide if the software tools Microsoft will soon start providing will indeed allow them to create immersive gaming experiences that will envelop the Xbox 360 consumer even further into the console’s lifestyle.

I do wish journalists would do a little research before tossing out this junk…
